The pool is open!

It's Memorial Day weekend...and you know what that means. Kids everywhere are screaming and splashing at their local pools, and our backyard is no exception. We broke out the inflatable kiddie pool today, and while it took a little while for Ryan to warm up to the idea, he eventually had a ball (and the pruny toes to prove it).

Enjoy a few pics of this fun "first." Don't mind the white sunscreen all over Ryan...Mom needs to practice her technique a bit.

They're heeeerrrere (almost)

After a few slightly cranky days and a lot of Tylenol, Ryan's two newest friends are finally surfacing....

Can't see 'em? Yeah...they're barely coming in yet - here's a close up...
We promise a better photo of a toothy grin as soon as they're fully here. :)

Ryan's 1st Cards game

Hi, everyone! Today, I went to my first Cardinal's game. Daddy carried me on the walk to and from the car -- and I watched all the people wide-eyed as we strolled by.

The game was packed! I had so much to look at -- the field, the fans...all the colors! It also was pretty windy, so I sat bundled up on mom, dad and aunt Jennifer's laps.

Luckily, mom brought plenty of toys to keep me busy when I was tired of staring at the field.

Here I am posing with mom.
And here's the whole fam enjoying the game.

What a great Saturday afternoon!

Bonus post - my kid is hilarious

I had to share some photos taken just moments ago. I needed to pick up a few things around the living room/kitchen area and fold some towels, so I put Ryan in his blue papasan chair to watch Baby Einstein. Amazingly, he sat and watched quietly -- the entire thing!

Then, I went to get him out of his chair...and saw...that he had "styled" his hair while watching.

LOL. Here's a rear view of the rat's nest my son created:

He basically grabs his hair over and over until his hands are stuck in it, then gets them free (essentially teasing the hair), then starts in a new spot. I've seen it when he's tired before...but I've never seen his head look like that. I laughed so hard I nearly wet our living room rug.

Sigh...what a great day!

You can call me the nannerpuss, nannerpuss

I realize that probably only my sister Lauren is laughing with me right now...so I'll clarify for the rest of you. The title references this year's Denny's Super Bowl commercial -- one that Lauren loved and repeated often. It's LOL funny in its simple stupidity (at least to us). If you haven't seen it, enjoy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kK6F7t-x6E.

Now, back to my little nannerpuss. This morning, Ryan tried bananas as his very first fruit. He seemed to love them (ate a half a container eagerly) and then suddenly...we got this:

It's not that he wasn't hungry -- after he refused bananas for a little while, I warmed up some of his favorite food - sweet potatoes. He gobbled those down like always. Maybe it was just too much of a new thing all at once. The good news is that green beans have been the only clear rejection. He does like peas and carrots, just not as much as his beloved sweet taters. This weekend, we'll try another fruit, assuming the bananas sit well over the next few days.

I'm trying not to stress about his love for sweet potatoes (and sometimes nothing else), but hey - at least he's eating. We have 2 more weeks to pack on the pounds before our weigh in, so hopefully we can get a nice variety in before then to mix things up a bit.

We also think Ryan may be cutting his first tooth...stay tuned!

Green beans? No thank you...

Today we shook things up and went for a green veggie for lunch. The verdict? Ryan gagged on his green beans. Maybe it's just b/c the flavors are so different from the orange veggies he loves? We'll try again at dinner and see if we have any luck. Who knows, maybe he just inherited his aunts' green-bean gag reflexes.

We also spent some of this beautiful day out swinging. (And taking photos and video, of course!) Check out a few of my favs below.

After nearly vomiting watching the video of him swinging, I thought I'd spare you all the motion sickness and instead post some video of him hanging out in his swing and gently moving. Enjoy!

Carrots

Today, we tried carrots -- the verdict?
Ryan loved them! We've also discovered this week how awesome it is that orange foods leave stains on bibs and collars (and mommy's shirts when they come back up). Yeah, it's pretty sweet. :)

We're working hard on getting some meat on Ryan's slender frame. Ryan's already eating 3 servings of veggies every day after less than a week on solids, so we're moving fast. Pretty soon we'll try some fruits as well and get up to the doctor's recommended 5 portions each day, which should bring us to about 63 loads of laundry each week. Ha.
